What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme, better known as the NDIS, supports Aussies living with significant and permanent disabilities. It’s all about giving people the financial backing and resources they need to tap into specific services and supports. This way, they can better manage their disabilities and hit their personal milestones, whatever they may be.

With the support of NDIS, those living with disability have the opportunity and support they need to participate in life, whether that be through community involvement, education, or employment.

NDIS participants can access a range of allied health services through their plan to improve their health and well-being, including physio.

The role of physiotherapy under NDIS

Physio under the NDIS is all about being a champion of support to get people moving, ease pain, and improve the independence of participants with services tailored to them. This might include exercise programs, recommendations of special aids and equipment, and strategies to improve quality of life, mobility, breathing, and posture.

Physio is not just to help NDIS participants to stay involved in their communities and working on their goals, but hopefully move them towards a fulfilling and independent life.

NDIS physiotherapy refers to the physiotherapy services covered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). These services are aimed at improving mobility, strength, and independence for individuals with disabilities.
This is something the NDIS will determine. Generally, if you have a significant and permanent disability that impacts your ability to carry out everyday activities, you may be eligible to access NDIS physio support. Check your eligibility on the NDIS website.
Your NDIS plan will outline what you're able to get support for in terms of eligible types of supports and services. Physiotherapy falls under the category of 'Therapeutic Supports.'
If you're an NDIS participant, you can access physiotherapy services by having physio included in your plan under the category 'Therapeutic Supports.' We recommend discussing the inclusion of physio in your plan with your NDIS planner or support coordinator.
At Integrity Physio , we offer a range of services for NDIS participants, including:
  • Pain management
  • Rehabilitation exercises
  • Training for mobility
  • Exercise for improved functional capacity

No, you don't need a referral to access physiotherapy services as an NDIS participant. You can access physiotherapy through your NDIS plan.
We can't manage your NDIS funding, but we can provide you with detailed information about our services and their costs to assist you in managing your plan. For detailed financial management, we recommend consulting with your NDIS plan manager.
When you come in for your first appointment, bring your NDIS plan (if available), any relevant medical history or reports, and wear clothing that is comfortable and allows for easy movement.
Your progress is regularly monitored through assessments and reports.
We tailor sessions to your individual needs and goals. This will be discussed following your initial assessment, and then included in your treatment plan.
As NDIS physiotherapy assessment will include:
  • A comprehensive review of your medical history, physical capabilities & personal goals
  • A physical examination to assess mobility, strength & any specific requirements
Absolutely. Home exercises are a crucial part of your physiotherapy treatment program and enable you to continue to make gains outside of sessions. We provide exercises personalised to your needs, along with the necessary guidance and demonstration to ensure safe and effective performance at home. Regular reviews and follow-up sessions mean that we can adjust your program as needed to ensure it remains in line with your goals and is adaptable to your progress.
